What 2 do with "#12 Spare Indicator" - Suggestions?

Post by spiderdan »

So I've had this Spider for over 13 years, and next year I am planning on re-doing my dash (want to re-finish the wood, install the AR cap and a used framed windshield). Since I have owned the car, the dash has never been removed and I kinda hate to, since everything works...except this one light on the dash.
Image
The one on left (E-brake) works, but the one right I have never seen lit up.
FWIW my 68 does not have emergency lights, guess they figured...

So I took out my owners manual...

I'm sure some of you will have thoughts/theories on why they put that dud indicator in there?
Maybe they just wanted the dash to look balanced?

I would like to hook it up to something, maybe just a toggle switch to make it light up. Switch could indicate
"Hyper-boost", "Nitrous oxide" or ...

Thoughts/ideas appreciated.

I would like to know when my fan comes on... probably a simple one wire mod .... when fan comes on light goes on .... flame thrower is cool too ... I wonder if a well tuned car would still have enough unburned fuel to light it up

That's a great idea...
...except (always an exception) I would be blinded by the light always being on. 8)

When I bought the car she overheated a couple of times. Seems that electromagnet thingy that makes the fan run was intermittent. So my trusty mechanic replaced the water pump and locked the fan on permanently. Said that it would probably wear the pump out sooner. Never had her overheat since and have had that same water pump in for 12 years 70,000 miles.

Actually - it's remarkably straight forward... seriously!

http://www.raptorperformance.com/produc ... ted-switch

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0255/2 ... ns.pdf?806

Take the feed from the coil, splice a feed for the raptor box. Put power to the raptor, and then fire the bulb/led too it (it supports 2 amps, so you could always run a relay off of it to power the light).

Tx for the links toplessexpat. You're right, not that bad.
Better alternative to a hole in the tach
It would be pretty kool 8) but i'm not sure of the basic premise of being told by my dash when to shift.
I tend to shift when it feels right, like just before the yellow, sometimes a little in the red, sometimes.
She seems to like it!

You can set the point at which the light comes on... so around 6500rpm wouldn't actually be overly intrusive...

Tx A
I think I like the idea.
I will try to visualize it tomorrow when I take her out. The light should be used for something. Just worried I will think my E-Brake is on.

Kinda on borrowed time up here in Ontario, might have to park her for the year soon. It's always a good driving year when I get to take her to the National Military Cemetery for the Remembrance Day ceremony. Supposed to hit 13C here tomorrow. It will be a nice change for the old vets. Poor guys and gals usually freeze in the rain/snow.
