My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
It has been smoking a lot at start up! If you drive it it goes away and will not come back until it is started up from cold again! It does not smoke after sitting idling for awhile, so I'm thinking that it's not valve guides. I was wondering if there is a cold start injector on these cars? And if so, could that be causing it to run rich at start up? Thanks for your help!!
Re: My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
cold start inj is on the front on the intake plenum. Is the smoke black or gray?
Re: My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
Thank for your response! The smoke is grey. I thought that grey was oil. But, if it is oil then why would it clear up? It also smells like gas and has a rough idle. But when not idling run smooth! Another thing, the motor has been sitting for about a year.
Re: My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
sounds more like valve seals than inj, but you can easily unplug the cold start inj and see if that changes things
Re: My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
Wouldn't it smoke after sitting at idle for awhile? And would this cause it to have a rough idle?
Re: My Spider reminds me of the Marlboro man!
it could cause a rough idle if a plug is oil fouled or if the guide is worn to the point the valve is rocking, but that would be extreme and usually cause a tick noise too

Thanks for the replies! Could my timing be off? I tried starting the car after having it off for about 15 minutes, and it did something like this: VRRR............VRRR...........VRRR.........VRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOM! LOL! Okay, seeing what I typed is cracking me up! This sounds like maybe a timing issue?

Dave, your explanation of how it sounds on start up is kind of confusing. It's hard to tell if it's timing without understanding the symtoms. Is it cranking hard (like against pressure), and then starting? That would definately be timing.
