Bumperless

Post by dinosabella »

About two weeks ago a friend and I removed the bumpers, (just to see) and we were very happy with the results. In my humble opinion the Spider looks a lot sportier and competition like.
By the way, those bastards weighed about 130lbs with the two bumpers and bumper shocks combined.
I am a little concerned about bumps when parking but I will no longer be driving the car as often as I had done in past years and I will have it fully insured this year.
The Abarth bumperettes are a little pricy.
To get the full effect of the look I think im going to lower the car to Euro spec.

ok ok ok to the point already
If anybody has done what I have done what have you done about the front turn signals?

you can see Evan's (SiteOwner) here:

I'm gonna use that same location for Fogs and the other location for my signals.
I've been looking at 2.5" or 2" lights here:

I plan on welding those holes shut and cutting perfect mounting holes for my lights otherwise it just looks like an afterthought

Fog lights from O'Reilly

Post by ICF »

FWIW, I did the saem and found a pair of fog lights from O'Reilly's that look as if they were made for the old bumper holes on my '76. They are amber-ish in color and may or may not still be available.

When I recently had my spider repainted, I opted to remove the bumpers becuase they took so much away from the styling of the car. I welded up all the leftover holes and dynaglassed them over. I went back with the lights from the older model 124's and cut out a template and cut new holes for the the lights. The result was fantastic. I was left with a very factory look without those 150 pound bumpers. For the rear bumper i just took off the bumper bars and left the shocks. i am considering modifying some rubber bumpers from an old volkswagen cabriolet we have to fit on the rear. i will post picks soon

Supposedly the turn signals off a 1982 Dodge (Mitsubishi) Colt fit perfectly if you lose the tube bumper.
