oil leak @ Distributor

Post by riverdadd »

Hello all, thought i would share a weird one. 75 spider, I have a oil leak @ the distributor. I read every post on this board and elsewhere, concering this topic, but never saw this scenerio. I put the distributor in and out 2 dozen times, tried o rings, gaskets, sealers, prayer, but nothing would work!! it would leak @ the pinch bolt, but not from the valve cover gasket.it had to be the distributor! I rebuilt the distributor, checked mating surfaces for trueness....ect over and over
So after the umteenth attempt, and many choice words, I finally found a hairline crack in the cam tower that terminates in the distributor hole. it took cleaning the seat with a dremel tool to reveal the crack. small enough to allow a slight weep down to the manifold. i am so relieved to finally have the answer. i was at my wits end with this one. i hope this may help someone in the future.
next step is to raid my parts stash and prep the replacement cam tower for installation.
thanks to this board for it's wealth of reference knowledge. I finally am close to being done on this Fiat's revival (20 plus years sitting)
