It has begun.... restoration

Post by Fifi1981 »

Greetings everyone. Well I am starting my endeavor redoing the interior on our 1981 Spider. This is my first crack at something like this and I may ask for advice from time to time. The first thing to ask is since the interior involves different subjects (electrical, cosmetic, etc) should I post in each different forum? Or would it be OK to post the whole casserole here?

I have the radio and center console out and will be replaced by solid plastic ones. Carpet is going to be replaced along with some gaskets in the shifter area. I have labeled all wires but I am coming up on some that I have no idea what they are to as they are/were not hooked up to anything.

At any rate, this is where I am at and am looking for advice. Thanks.

Hi Fifi's owner. Everyone who's done what you're doing has run into the same situation with the mass of wires under the console. The factory didn't make different wire looms for cars with different options, and it seems like there are wires in there that never had a purpose. The best thing to do is download Brad Artigues wiring diagram for your year (http://www.artigue.com/fiat) they are as accurate as you'll find. A better idea is to go to Kinko's and have them print up a set in larger size, 11x17 is doubled and makes it a whole lot easier to read. Studying these diagrams has unravelled a lot of mysteries for me.
