Lowering springs and performance shocks

Post by So Cal Mark »

We've struck a deal to import lowering springs and performance shock absorbers from Germany. The rear springs are progressive, so lowering the car won't result in such a harsh ride. The drop is 1 1/2" on the late cars. Here are some before and after pics showing the new stance, along with pics of the difference in the springs.

are both the shocks and springs needed to lower the car? i've recently upgraded my shocks so only need the springs (or to my existing ones, which i would prefer not to do). is an earlier car (1975 with even earlier chrome bumpers) lowered the same amount?

how much for a set of springs?
cut my rears and will need to do the front... yours would be a much better option.
what can be done to the panrod? I assume the rear end will shift a 1/4 inch over?
thanks!

Funny how the euro fluctuates over the years. I bought a set of these about 3 years ago from Spider Point and paid about $300 including shipping. I don't regret putting them on the car as it took away the 4x4 stance. Rides smooth, corners flat, and for this price you can't beat it.

. The panhard rod moves very little. Assuming a 3' panhard rod drops 3" (this is a lot of travel), the actual horizontal movement is about 1/8". This is calculated assuming the bar at rest is horizontal. Since the panhard rod is angled above horizontal at rest and passes below horizontal with a drop in suspension and loading, the horizontal movement would be less.

It's an excellent price, given that the Spider Point springs are still over 200€.

Mark, Any information on the new shocks you mentioned earlier? Type, price, brand, when available? I am diving into suspension and trying to make some decisions.

we haven't brought the shocks in yet, it will be after the first of the year for those. It's a German brand called TopLine, not as stiff as a Koni but stouter than the KYBs
