HEAD GASKET 1971 1608 spider
the haynes manual says to wipe the head gasket down with oil before installation--is this true? seems weird?

every head gasket i have ever put on has said install dry, are you sure you did not misread that for the head bolts, you do want those threads oiled ( but not dripping).
in any case follow the gasket makers directions on this

I always install them dry.
