I have looking around for a new carb and saw a dual carb set up on a friends 1800 spider but he dosent know where it came from since it was already on the car before he got it. So if anyone can tell me where to get a new or good used dual carbs and their manifolds that would be great. im not sure what they are worth either so some price ranges would be good to.
By the way my friend with the spider also has 4 other spiders and 2 spitfires he says the spitfires are better

A Spitfire is a slow motorcycle with a body wrapped around it. Good luck in a crash.

If he says spitfires are better then why does he have 4 fiats and only 2 spitfires?
I test drove a spitfire once, the pedals were so close together you could not hit the brake pedal without hitting the clutch and the accelerator pedals at the same time. Those Brits must have small feet, or drive with pointy shoes.
These are the cheapest dual carb manifolds I've found: http://www.pbseng.com/FIAT124.html I don't know anything about the company or this specific manifold. The origional waffle manifold is the best and most sought after. Expect to pay a pretty penny for the waffle manifold.
As for the dual carbs, you can buy then new for about $300 each, do an internet search for "Weber 40 IDF"
You can find them on occasionally ebay or maybe your local craigslist.
If there is a strong VW community where you live someone locally may have them for considerably less. They will need to be re-jetted to match your motor. Used ones will probably need to be rebuilt, but that will help you get to know how they work and how to adjust them.
The complete dual carb setup can cost as much as $1,700 from some of our vendors. You may be able to get a used set from a VW guy for around $200 + $155 for the manifold.
You may also need a higher flow fuel pump to keep up with the demand. I'm not sure how many or even if the manifold/carbs have emissions provisions, somethings to consider.

Re: 1800 dual carb
Well i know spitfires arent the best cars but his is fast topped out at 136mph but he said the worst part about them are the drum breaks and the fact that if you do hit something it is a death trap. Thanks for the web link, i think he might sell me an extra set of carbs his entire house has more parts in it than IAP has. By the way his favorite spider is from a racing school somewhere in the carolinas and he hasnt been able to top it out yet

His fast Fiat must be a John Baucom or Peter Krauss car. Way cool!
I would check Ebay for a used set for a Fiat. The linkage between the two carbs is shorter for our cars so there would have to be some modification in that area too, but I hear it's not much of a problem. You can also check out Pierce Manifold for a setup, but it will be expensive. As far as the fuel pump, I'm running both my 71 and 72 with the mechanical fuel pump and haven't had a fuel problem on either. It will require a pressure regulator since they run on 2.5 to 3 psi and I measured my pump at 5 to 7 psi.

will the porsce 40 idf work on a fiat because theres a set on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Weber-Ca ... dZViewItem if they dont then there are a couple vw sets on ebay to
Re: 1800 dual carb
the vw and porsche carbs are different than what the Spider uses. Those carbs are meant to oppose each other and may not be able to be mounted side by side without lots of mods. Empi is making Weber clones, you might check on prices on new carbs and get something that will definitely work rather than someone's modified castoffs

Re: 1800 dual carb
Given that your friend doesn't appear to know anything about his dual-carb Spider his testimonial about the Spitfire being a superior vehicle is kind of worthless. If you don't know how they work or what makes them work you really aren't qualified to have an opinion.
I think the production run of the FIAT Spider - 29 years - is testament enough to which of the small convertibles was "better." I believe it is surpassed only by the Alfa Spider.

I asked him why he liked the spitfire so much and he said he likes the way it looks but the fiat is a better drive
