Should I be worried? Rust under battery tray

While waiting for my alternator to be rebuilt, I started poking around under my battery tray.

As far as I can tell, rust seems to be limited to this area. Can't find anything anywhere else. Frame rail seems solid, but I am admittedly a serious newbie in this area.

Problem is, I can't figure how someone might get in to this area, especially from below, to fix it. Im leaning towards covering it all in POR15 and calling it good.

Thoughts? Not sure if I am loading photos right, but here goes...any info on how to embed photos would help too!

Ouch! Looks like leaking battery acid, perhaps isolated to that area. I would be looking at cutting/drilling out and replacing some metal. Do you have a mig welder?

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, no. I am interested in learning, but to be honest, I am not even really sure how to get to it to cut out the bad areas. Taking off the fender would give great access, but I have read that it is very involved.

May have to get a professional to look and give me an idea what may be involved.

Look around edges for spot welds. May have to remove some paint to see. Then you will need a spot weld cutter for your drill. I bought a 3 pack from Eastwood, maybe 30 or 40 bucks can't remember. Once you drill out spot welds, it can be removed. I hope I'm correct. Not familiar with that location.
