I've finally been working more and more on my 75 over the past couple of weeks. I rebuilt the carb a couple months ago, removed the smog pump and egr stuff, plugged the holes in the head (still need to find a plug for the intake and exhaust ), and rebuilt the brake master cyl. More recently I was finally able to put that damn fuel filler hose on (what a pain in the ass!!!! ) and am currently working on sealing up where the water neck connect to the water T (but that's for another post).
Where I'm at now I'm getting to think about the A/C unit in the car. Here in Texas you really do need the A/C for the sweltering summer months even in a convertible. Now, as far as I can tell this is an original dealer installed system and has most of the major parts (condensor, evaporator, and receiver/dryer). I'm not sure if it has the expansion valve, but that may be with the evaporator inside the car. What it does not have is the compressor or the compressor bracket. I know the original type compressor is no longer available and a sanden will be more efficient and I will most like source one for the car. What i don't know is where it would be mounted on the engine.
Does anyone have one of these units in their car that can show me some pictures so i can get a better idea? The alternator is mounted on the lower passenger side and the smog pump (now removed) was mounted high on the passenger side. This only leaves the lower driver side to mount the a/c compressor but I cannot see where the bracket would bolt on to the block. Is this space where the compressor should go, or do I have to move the the alternator somewhere else and mount the compressor in its place?
On a side question, Now that I've removed the smog pump, i would like to get rid of the smog pump drive pulley that's mounted with the exhaust cam pulley. Can these two be taken apart or is it one solid unit? Any reference material on how to remove it would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you.

I have never heard of someone taking the pulley apart. On the ac: I assume you have seen this? http://www.mirafiori.com/faq/content/AC/ac.htm

You just beat me to posting that.
Interestingly enough - one of the companies that produces the components you'll need isn't that far from Lubbock!
I'm about to embark on roughly the same course with my FI - so do please post how you go. Car has all the in-cabin pieces - but nothing int the engine bay, and some cut-off pipes!

Re: 1975 A/C compressor location
Most AC brackets mount the compressor on the charts size, but on the 75 the alternator is on that spot.
There were some brackes that mounted the compressor on the left side, but they were kind of awkward and are hard to find.
You may have to move the alternator to the drivers side to be able to mount the compressor on the right side.
If you do this you would need a custome made crack pulley. Millers Mule makes them.
