Loose Brake Pad?

Post by sterlingE »

Hello all,

Noticed a knocking noise coming from the driver side wheel well. Felt feedback in the steering wheel as well.

Took off the tire and noticed that there is play on the brake pad. Just had them recently replaced. Also changed the master cylinder and bled the brakes.

I can see a caliper freezing shut - but a little confused as to why the the brake pad would be seated firmly.

Any ideas?

I assume you are talking about lateral play and not in and out play. Usually the little tabs on the end of the pad fit pretty snug in their slot. Check to see if the pad springs are installed correctly

#3 on that diagram is only used on the very early Spiders.
I don't think you should be able to feel a loose brake pad in the steering wheel. You may have some other issue going on, check the suspension and steering.
