34 ADF question
34 ADF question
I have a 1600 with stock carb and intake (as far as I know). I have recently acquired a 34 ADF and am wondering what is involved in installing this on my stock 1600, well kind of stock, it has a header with 2 inch exhaust. I have searched but am having difficulty finding the answer. I know I somehow have to get water to it or find a way to make the choke manual. It appears that the linkage is the same as what I have now, or at least the orientation of the pull. I know a better intake is preferred, but will it work on my stock intake? Any mother tips? Having carb issues and changing to this may be a better option.

Sell it and use the money to buy a 32/36DFEV, which bolts right on. You may even find one with a manual choke, then you do not even have to run a wire for the electric choke.

Re: 34 ADF question
Might be difficult to find, but a 34 dmsa works as well and is a manual choke. I have one on the 72 that is a work in progress.

just convert your 34 adf to an electric choke, much better choice than plumbing water into your carb

Re: 34 ADF question
...and a lot less effort - the water choke requires you replace the pipe that runs under the exhaust and get a manifold that has a water port. There are other ways to do it, but this is the stock setup. Your stock manifold may work but the ADF is pretty tall and may require a spacer on your manifold for the throttle to fully rotate. That said make sure once you have the carb set up (and before you bolt it down) that the hood will close without damage to itself or the carb. And that's with an air cleaner installed. So Cal Mark wrote:just convert your 34 adf to an electric choke, much better choice than plumbing water into your carb
Some folks noted selling it and getting a DFEV - it would be easier and is more of a match to stock - but installing the ADF isn't particularly challenging. You'll be spending two hours on installing it vs. twenty minutes.

How exactly is this conversion to electric choke made? Is there a kit that can be purchased? So Cal Mark wrote:just convert your 34 adf to an electric choke, much better choice than plumbing water into your carb

Re: 34 ADF question
An originality buff would convert it to manual choke, as stock on the 1608:

Otherwise you take an electric choke assembly and replace the water choke. I think its three screws.
