Make sure you remove the "fill" plug before you remove the "drain" plug.

yup. will do. i had a shop change the oil when i first got the car, so they should be easy to rmeove. shifting seems to be getting more difficult. i wonder if they filled it all the way, so i'll change it myself to be sure.

Having bought the $9.99 one before I would spend the extra money for one of the better pumps in the links previously posted. The inexpensive one with the white cap falls apart where it goes through the plastic jug threaded cap and you get to fish the parts out of the jug

Remember to also pull the rear 7mm (I think it is 7mm) plug as well as the main drain plug. About a pint will come out of there on its own. It is a separate chamber in the transmission at the rear that apparently is filled by splashing. We had my car up on the lift and adjusted the lift pads to their maximum at front, minimum at rear in order to get a decidedly upwards tilt to the front, then we were able to get the 1.75 quarts in, so I am assuming that this angle will allow the lube to spill over to the rear compartment.

(The inexpensive HF fluid pump worked fine for me.)

i jacked the car up and got under there. the fill plug is a 17mm hex bolt that i can loosen relatively easily (good news). the drain plug is not a hex bolt. it takes a large allen key. is this stock or was it changed at some point in the past? if stock, is it also 17mm?
