I have a 79 carbureted Spider, which I believe to be stock, except for the removal of all the emissions junk, including the cat converter. It feels pretty peppy to me and it really get's down the road well IMO. At 3000rpm or better, a quick kick of the gas pedal has me passing cars very smartly. I can feel, and hear, the secondary's on the carb open up.
But, I always hear that the 79 has a very weak carb with small secondary's. So my question is, how do I know that this carb is the stock 79 carb and not the bigger 32/34 which is more desirable? What and where should I look to know if this is the stock carburetor?
Thanks!

The venturi body bolts on to the throttlebody, just above where they meet there will be letters and numbers stamped. You may need to give it a good clean to see them. Post them up and people will tell you what you've got.

The 32/36 DFEV doesn't have a separate throttle plate. The original carb does. On the DFEV, the size is stamped on the side of the carb next to the camshaft tower. If your carb has a throttle plate, it may still be a DFEV replacement. You can use the throttle plate as a spacer. The DFEV does need a spacer to put it in the correct position. In my car, I used the throttle plate, and stripped it, plugged all the holes, and used it as a spacer.

The stock 79 carb has a vacuum operated secondary throttle and a water operated choke.
