Steering Box Seal Replacement Help
Steering Box Seal Replacement Help
so, I pulled my steering box because it was dry, and since I had access while installing a new intake/carb, figured now was the time to take a good look. insides look good - still some "thick" gear oil on the worm gears - top bearing looks good. have ordered replacement input and output shaft seals, and cover gasket. are there any tricks/tips for tearing this thing down? my pitman arm puller does not fit to taking it to a local garage to have them get the arm off. I supposed i should mark the arm and shaft to that I get proper alignment when i put it all back together (so I don't mess up lock to lock on steering) - anyone with experience and words of advice? appreciate anything you have out there as there is nothing on the web wrt details on how to R&R the box or cut away diagrams on the insides. BTW - after getting the 15 lb starter out (with the help and some swearing from a buddy of mine) - I decided to just buy a new High Performance Gear Reduction stater from autocambri - since this is the original with 125K miles - Murphy's law would say "as soon as I get everything back together - the starter would croak", so for $200, cheap insurance and some weight savings as well. anyone need a starter - works fine from what I can tell - just a little messy at the moment!

removing the pitman arm is major PITA
usually takes some heating, lots of swearing and a precise hit with a 10lbs hammer
