Interest check - this could be cool

Post by georgeramos »

Several years ago my friend Grover made a semi-successful attempt to create a Fiat branded set of valve covers. His mold however failed to take the correct shrinkage factor into account so the prototypes are too small to use. Also he was unhappy with the alloy that the foundry was using and i think he ran out of patience if not money with the project and he shelved it.

I am interested in helping him revive it but would like to get a sense of what the demand might be for these. Here are some of my thoughts and beliefs if anyone could confirm it would be helpful.

1) All motors would use the SAME size covers
2) All motors would need DIFFERENT throttle linkage setups
3) I'd hope to be at around $200 for a set

They would NOT be painted like this prototype but just bare aluminum.

If there are any other facts I need to know please do tell. Also if anyone would be interested please let me know here.

Thanks gang

we had some versions of those made and it was a constant nightmare with the foundry. Shrinkage is a huge problem and most of the covers weren't usable

Sounds like the same issue he had...

I called a foundry a few months ago to inquire and they told me to see a very specific person at a specific pattern shop. Said he was knowledgeable enough to help get the mold(s) right on for the shrinkage of whichever alloy we end up using. Sounds like an old school kind of guy.

Im reluctant now however cause it seems probably not worth the trouble.

Thanks for the heads up Mark.
