Miata Windscreen on a Fiat

Post by spidernut »

I read several posts about someone adapting the Miata windscreen for the Spider. I contacted the company who makes the screen and they don't make one for the Spiders. At $49 it can't be beat since the vendors want $200 more for the Spider's screen.

Could whomever did the adaptation and made their own brackets post some pictures of how they mounted it. Also, if anyone has the one from other vendors I'd like to see the mounts there too. From what I saw the mounts interfere with the boot cover.

John, I think this link shows some pictures and maybe some info on the mount.

Steve - thanks. Now the next question is "did he fabricate the mounting brackets?" One set looks to be chrome and the others black. This would work on my Spider that has a similar package shelf in the back, but not on my car with a rear seat. I'll try to PM him.

I sent Warren an email. I'm interested as well. I'll share any info I get and maybe you can do the same. :D

Warren was kind enough to share his info with me and has given me permission to share it with anyone that wants it.

The pictures are in 3 PDF docs so I'm not sure how to share other than stick them up on my google drive and share a link. Here is the link. Let me know if it works.

Here is his notes about the files.
Enclosed are some pictures of my installation (the red Fiat) using my homemade brackets and also some pictures of some "trial" Raceland brackets used on my friend Wayne's green Fiat. I am not sure if Raceland has gone to production on their brackets yet but their dimensions were fine (emailed them these pictures) so you can contact them (Cody Graham) if you do not desire to make your own. The brackets on mine used the original shoulder bolts on the frame; was able to remove them and re-use them but one broke on Wayne's car so we had to substitute. We would have had to substitute anyway as the trial bracket is slightly thicker than mine. A shoulder bolt is truly needed as the frame hinges on that bolt but a regular bolt will work.

If you decide to make your brackets, a good vise is necessary. The dimensions are not absolutely critical so you can have some slop.

Once installed, it may be necessary (trial and error) to tighten up the deflector nuts to be just enough to allow to fold down. If too loose, the deflector is pushed forward against the headrests at highway speed.
I'm thinking I might just have to invest in a "Windblokker"!! :D Thanks so much Warren!!!

I remember there was some concern early on about the brackets causing a problem with trying to use the top boot cover (i.e. maybe having to cut a slit). I finally found my boot cover and there is no problem using it and it is also shown in the pictures on Wayne's olive green Fiat.
