Brake upgrades?

Since Ive been upgrading the performance, I thought a brake up-grade would be wise. Could I achieve good-enough brakes with special pads, front AND/OR rear?

Dave, I replaced my pads on the 71 with Ferodo race pads for the weekend on the track and they work exceptionally well. This is the car I eliminated the brake booster on though. They work well for street use too and this is with the old Fiat brake rotors. One thing I noticed when I pulled them off to replace the control arm bushings is a little crumbling on the back edges. I don't know if this is going to be a problem. IAP sells performance Ferodo pads.
On my 72, I have the 13" Whoa brakes. They stop better than stock too, but I still have a lower pedal than I think I should have. It didn't change when I replaced the calipers, pads, lines and rotors from what was on there previously. It has a new m/c and original booster.

This is an upgrade kit available Down Under for fast road cars and competition use. They fit under 13" wheels, the ventilated rotors are Alfetta and the calipers are Renault Fuego. I use them on both my cars and even under extreme competition use they've never let me down.

Dave,

I went with Whoa brakes. Nice stable braking and no more pulling side to side depending on the eclipse of the moon. The whole kit was an easy conversion, Jim provides everything needed. I have his series 1 kit, he has since made a kit for 13" wheels.

Some complain about the price but when you compare new calipers & hoses to his kit its really not that much more. Did I mention stable braking?

Thanks all, since ive already blown this years budget, and have replaced everything in the brakes last year, I think Ill just settle for the pad replacment. Will I need to do the rears also??? If you got the go, you need the woah!

Curly,

I would like to upgrade my brake system and considering the whoa kit uses the stock rotors I was going to buy the calipers seperately and make the mounting brackets myself. I figure the two calipers plus shipping would be around $300 not including pads.

About how much does that "down under" kit cost? Can you provide a link?
Or give the specs of the year, make, model of the calipers and rotors so I can price them out seperatly.

The mounting brackets in that picture don't look like they are too hard to reverse engineer, just a bit more work than the whoa brackets

I only spent 200 for all new pads, rotors, hoses, new caliper seals, O rings, and a bunch of other small things.



One less zero is always better on the bill. at least for me
