Yellow cam cover
Yellow cam cover
I preped and painted my cam cover last spring, now the paint is comin off. Cant deal with the yellow! Any sucess with painting, or alt ideas appreciated
Re: Yellow cam cover
you mean the paint is flaking off, or you are taking it off on purpose because you don't like the yellow?
I think you should paint one red and one green, or paint them in some sort of red white green scheme.

Re: Yellow cam cover
Why dont you get it powercoated. They can do any color you want and durable enough to hit it with a wrench and no damage.
Did you really paint it yellow??????????

Re: Yellow cam cover
On my 79, the cam cover is plastic, and very ugly yellow. Some folks take off the pain in a-- backsheilds and cover. My luck says keep it all covered up, even thou its not as cool. I painted it flat black last spring... Even with what I thought was a good prep, it dint stay on. Wish I could powder it!

Re: Yellow cam cover
Dave's talking about the timing cover, right Dave? Have Ron make you one out of aluminum and have Spiderman engraved in it.

OK, timing belt cover,( my terminologies are very GM, not valve cover) But its still yellow... Dont think Ive got enough mustard for Spider-Man, How-bout knucklehead? I can do that! Aluminum sounds interestin, got any pics?
Re: Yellow cam cover
As an inexpensive alternative, Krylon makes a spray paint that is just for plastics. It bonds on a molecular level. I have heard it really words well if the surface is prepared as instructed. Home Depot and Lowes maybe Walmart.
....and yes, it comes in YELLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Re: Yellow cam cover
Yeah, pope, good call. Krylon Fusion works great on plastics. No priming, and as long as you clean the piece well adhesion is great. I had some on a decoritive engine cover piece in my Aerio and it never faded or came off at all. that was more of an ABS plastic, though. I think it would work well with our timing belt cover. They do carry red white and green and most wal-marts carry the Fusion line.
Re: Yellow cam cover
yeah, if you don't want to use that special Krylon spray for plastic you need to get a "for plastic" primer....sold at most parts stores. NAPA was the last place I bought a rattle can of the plastic primer.
Re: Yellow cam cover
if only those early t-belt covers worked for the 2 litre... life would be so much prettier
Re: Yellow cam cover
You know mike sells that timing belt cover, too..
hes got some nice polished ones for like 80 I think

This is my ´79 engine. I´ve painted the cam covers in red (high tem spray) and the belt cover is painted with normal body paint (base + clearcoat)
Much better than before...
ch33kster, the aluminum cover is relly nice! The 1979 model is plastic, and not good quality.
