my cup holder solution

Post by btoran »

the first time i drove my spider home from a fast food place with a cup of soda perched precariously in my lap as i shifted through the gears, i knew a cup holder had to be found.

sacrilegious, you say? i agree. which is why i wanted a cup holder that is temporary and easily removed/stored.

i searched high and low and finally stumbled on what i think is the perfect solution (and with a total cost of only $5.99).

without further ado, here it is:

it's a Babies-R-Us stroller cup holder with a rotating swivel thingy (i know, it's a technical term). a knob on the outside loosens or tightens the clip. when needed, it can easily be clipped on to the map pocket and will hold a beverage securely in place for the return trip home.

Here are a few photos of the cup holders I mounted into the center dash area of my 81 Spider. I relocated the controls and warning lights to below the radio.

Found the holders in a marine supply store. Was a lot of work but we find the location great. Drinks are out of the way and still easy to reach. The warning lights are a little less visible in the lower panel.

Clever location.

Normally I don't like changes to the original dash but the carbon fiber wrap (I assume) on the wood dash looks good.

Mike The carbon fiber dash panels are real carbon fiber with a wood center. An aviation upholstery shop made them for me. The center section with the cup holders was an after thought of mine and that area is a vinyl film as is the cup holders them selves. The vinyl film next to real carbon fiber does not look very good. I am going to change it.

Azrus As far as the crotch warmer goes didn't you see the warning labels on McDonalds coffee ?
