Fiat AMX?
Here's an odd thought...I read an article that reminded me of this progression:
Nash used early Pinin-Farina designs
Hudson and Nash combined to make American Motors spawning Rambler and the Kaiser-Jeep era
Then AMC had that odd partnership with Renault
Chrysler then buys out AMC mainly for the Jeep brand
Fiat buys out Chrysler mainly for the Jeep brand and distribution system
Fiat owns Alfa, Ferrari, etc.
So, with all of the retro cars where is the AMX in all of this? A Fiat AMX? I don't think so. A Chrysler AMX? Maybe, but I don't see it happening. An Alfa Romeo Gremlin? Now that would be a site! How about a Ferrari Pacer. Ha, ha! That would be a riot!

Boredom is a dangerous thing!
We'll definitely have to do that now that the car is back together. I'm sure my friend Mark would be up for it too. Any thoughts where would be a good meeting point? We'll be free starting in February - how does Feb look for you?

I'll do some searching - if you have any suggestions let me know. If the weather stays like it is, we can drive just about anywhere.

Now look what you went and started! You got ga.spider dreaming up things thar should never be.
As for the run. I think a run somwhere between us would place us starting in Folsom near hwy 50. We could head out to hwy 49 and run out towards Auburn. Maybe use some of the back roads and do a loop up thru Georgetown.
There is a Euro Sunday later this month too.
Looks like the euro sunday site has some loops setup.

Bizarre - I was doing the same Kevin Bacon linkage last weekend......I owned a 77 Gremlin and a 1980 AMC Spirit (my first new car....one could only trade a Gremlin in for another AMC back then!) and was pondering the genealogy that brought me to Fiat. Well done.spidernut wrote:Here's an odd thought...I read an article that reminded me of this progression:

Yes bizarre for sure.supplyguy wrote:

I owned a Javelin AMX and now I also own a Fiat! Scary!
I love both of these cars. The Javelin AMX was a fantastic car. The dashboard was so far ahead of it's time and really unique and the car itself was a real head turner, just like the Fiat. My guess is the only real connection is the fact that both of these cars are underdogs, not well respected and the butt of plenty of bad jokes...

The AMX rocked...the Gremlin not so much, although my 77 had the VW 2.0 liter that made me feel a little better about the car.

I have owned a bunch of different muscle cars.In the late 70's,they were cheap!! Mustang,Z28,GTO Judge(my favorite),and a Roadrunner. The one I always wanted and never got my hands on ? AMX with a 390 engine.Love those cars.

Man, is that the truth!ga.spyder wrote:I have owned a bunch of different muscle cars.In the late 70's,they were cheap!!
I guess we thought the "glory" days of Detroit muscle would never end. We took it for granted that Detroit, big block V-8's and great style would always be there. Who knew that someday, chrome would vanish, or our engines would be classified by litres instead of CI's, and plush riding Cadillacs would disappear and Americans would prefer driving a Hyundai or Kia to a Chevy? Who ever thought Pontiac and Oldsmobile would go under and Chrysler would become Fiat? Heck, GM represented almost 2/3's of the nations GNP at their height!
Makes me sad just thinking about it all...
