abarth independent rear suspension

Post by BEEK »

does anyone have good pictures of this or even some technical drawings. i have seen a few poor pictures only showing partial coverage and not a drawing. i would like to see how fiat went about mounting things. my 73 project will have a irs, i already have the unit. kinda heavy but it will never break. already has a lsd, and axles attached.

i will have to fabricate mountings, hubs and such.

thanks in advance

very nice picture!

Beek,

Got anything interesting in mind? From some of your other posts I imagine you to be a man with vision, skills and some technical resources!! Would love to see a Spider IRS.

A few pictures from my misspent time on the web.

I think this link will take you to a Flickr library. If it does not work, post here and I will try to fix it.

A number of years ago, someone here posted a pic of a Subaru rear end. I believe they were going to give it a go and mount it on a spider..

awesome picture, i have a rear from a 3000gt, it can handle 600hp, has a lsd, it is a tad heavy as it is cast iron, not aluminum.

now i see how fiat adapted it, i will make some drawings and try to build my own version.

i am not going to use struts though, so i will have to make an upper rod, my plan is coilovers

That is what I heard...plus I'll have room to run my duel exhaust out the back as the 4 link system gets in the way of that...

Beek,
You do know that the front is quite different from the stock setup too. I also was going to do a project like this using a BMW 2002 rear end. After reading that Guy Croft( he had one) said that on hard surfaces the Abarth was slower that stock,
I decide that the effort in fabrication was not worth it. One point is the Abarth design with struts was mounted at the shock towers. On a A-arm design the mounting points will have to be fabricated. My plan was to use X 1/9 struts which I think is what the factory did. Keep us posted on your project and good luck.
