Painting rear view mirror

Post by Dougieb »

Ok, so my rear view mirror looks terrible.
(1972 Spider)
I got a new mirror to replace the old one that was basically non reflective.
I took it apart and want to repaint the outer pieces, they were all scratched.
Obviously the original color is black, but gloss, semigloss, or flat?
I can't tell if it was flat or just faded.
I know this is a small thing but just want to get it right if I can.

Thanks

If it is plastic, there are some really good dyes out there that will bring it back looking new (but they don't fill scratches).

These are metal.
I had to paint to cover up scratches and to get rid of the rust.
I already have it PORed.
Just have to put the final coat on.
I wondered if glossy finish would make it stick out like a sore thumb.
