Metal versus Composite Aux Shaft Gear

Post by spidernut »

Does anyone know when Fiat switched from a metal aux shaft gear to a composite aux shaft gear? I purchased a replacement on Ebay that is metal, but it weighs about 50% more than the stock composite gear. I hadn't expected that.

Not sure about aux, but ~1977-78 is when the plastic camgears were used.
I would not worry that much about the weight, they rotate at half engine speed.

If you purchase the metal cast after market gears with 4 openings these are lighter then the solid gears.

Or if you are really concerned about the weight and have the money, get the all aluminum one from Miller's Mule. http://www.millersmule.com/MillersMuleS ... ohc-engine
