Bar Harbor Maine not veteran friendly

Post by NJFIAT1981 »

Hello all,
It has come to my attention that the city council of Bar Harbor, Maine has decided to remove a Christmas Tree Memorial to our Battle of the Bulge veterans.
Seems that this memorial has been up for a long time and the city council has decided that it looks like a Christmas tree and should not be on public property. Well it is a Christmas tree and it represents the Christmas Tree that those brave men didn't have on Dec 25,1944. It's a memorial to those men, not to Christmas.
I shouldn't really have to mention that the President of the United States has a Christmas tree in the White House. All politically correct BS. Shame on them

I for one will no longer go to Bar Harbor

WOW are you sure about that???
Couldn't be the same folks that put the barrier around the WWII Memorial in DC could it??

I served, I pray, and I am proud of it!

I was in Bar Harbour at the end of June. Neat little town.....Plenty of cold installation fluid... Couldn't see any Fiats though.

Man, why are politicians messing around with things sacrilege? Perhaps they are of the younger persuasion and this PC has gotten the better of them. Maybe a training sergeant would be kind enough to give them a little talking to/refresher as to the sacrifices the people who serve make.

The government up here is screwing the vets around as well....pisses me off to no end. (no I never was in the service)
Write a letter get the media involved and shame the politicians who are thinking of the change.

I did right a letter of protest to the town council. It was a 4-2 vote in favor of removing the offending tree. The response was from one of the nay voters. I thanked him and the other nay voter for sticking up for the vets. My guess is that the yea voters will not respond. Cowards!

There is a news paper called the Downeaster Try putting a letter to the editor. As a Naval officer with over 30 years of service I am constantly amazed and disappointed in our elected officials lack of respect and dignity for those that have served and continue to serve for their benefit.

Saw this on Bill O last night, they are a bunch of morons, obviously. Maine has changed a lot over the last couple of decades.

Political momentum is transforming our society at an alarming rate. This is a shameful example of people being swept up in change that does not produce a better society but undermines some of the greatness that made our country. There is a true inability for people to think about the ramifications of political action or inaction in the long run. Many voters are only concerned with thier special interest and not the greater good of society. There is a right time to act in the correct manner and that seems to have been lost in the fog of polital correctness. At what point does our society in the US become unsustainable because of the politial, social, financial devistation being brought on by politicians lobbying for votes rather than doing the right thing. Who today is ready to sacrifice for the greater good like these brave Veterans did!! I guess I am getting a little older when I see adults in powerful positions acting like children fighting for the last cookie in the cupboard while the house is burning around them.

Peace.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Sadly the tone, tenor and opinions of the Bar Harbor Council do not reflect that of nearly everyone else in Maine. truly sad and pathetic.

The next election cycle needs to see a record setting amount of turnover!

Local elections are funny - each municipality has it's own flavor and Bar Harbor is almost completely dependent on tourist dollars. It would not surprise me if half of the council are retirees from away, with time on their hands to run for local office, which seems to happen too often here. First thing that happens is a campaign to make their adopted town just like wherever they left. :|

Personally, I think it is a reflection of how little real work they have to do when they become so intransigent over imposing a solution to problems of their own invention.

That makes sense. Transposed Massholes (I am one, so I can use that term) have just about ruined NH, and now it looks like Maine is in their sights. Attempting to create idiotic, unachievable liberal utopias wherever they land.

Looking forward to our Fiat Run in Maine next year. Kevin and family are wonderful people. We always have a great time with all who attend. If I could fit a small Blue Spruce in the Spider I would place it at the monument for our weekend.
Enjoy your ride

What I want to know is Who actually gets offended by a tree?? Really which one of our species has a problem with a Christmas tree? I just don't get it, stuff like that is a major concern for councils. Sometimes the people who represent us are really pathetic. Imagine we could communicate verbally with animals and you had to explain something like to them. I'm sure they'd give you that tilted head stupid look...
Cheers David
