1981 Spider

I'm going to repaint the timing belt plastic shroud. My question is: What is the correct factory color? The fan blades on the cooling fan are yellow. Is this correct? Should they match? I've seen yellow and gray or silver on the shroud. I appreciate the help of this forum, and I know I will get the correct answer. I used this forum many times when I was restoring the car and found it very helpfull. What is your choice for paint? I've used Eastwood spray on the dash but have not used on exterior surfaces. Appreciate your help.

I think the gray/silver ones are metal (that's what's on my 74). They would be factory in that color. The yellow were plastic (that's what's on my 81), and would be factory in yellow color.

I used Rustoleum Sun Yellow (I got the color from a different thread I can't find) and it came out factory looking.

Wow!!! that was quick. I thought that would be the answer, but you know how it is, you like to hear it from another person. Thanks for the type and color of the paint you used. That is really helpful. I will be doing some painting in the near future.

Make sure it is clean. I clean with brake cleaner and then spray a primer before the yellow. Primer I used was a sandable primer from a rattle can.

my 1980 carb car has a yellow timing belt cover
My 1981 and 82 have silver covers. I'm guessing somewhere around 8081 the color becomes silver. I would paint the cover what ever color it was.
I have painted a few fans and timing covers with good results. First I wash with gasoline to remove all oil and grease.
Then wash with hot water and TSP. The TSP does a great job of cleaning the oils out of plastic.
With spray gun spray epoxy primer then urethane color.

Wow!!! A lot of great information. If I mess up this job after all this information. I had better just hang it up.

Thanks.
