Fuel/Gas line replacement

Post by jferrara »

I have a 1978 Fiat Spider and there is a very strong smell of gas in the cabin, not so much in the trunk. When I peeled back the carpet on the drivers side the floor was saturated with what appears to be gas. There was a cloth like material down against the metal floor and this was soaked in the liquid. I've seen some info here as to what hose to use for replacement but does anyone have some instruction as to how to replace the hose (pictures would be great too)? I see what looks like two hoses running along the drivers side door floor. One looks to be metal with a rubber coating (that is now very brittle and crumbling). Thanks in advance!

if you're going to replace the hard line with rubber hose, I'd consider that a temporary repair. The rubber hose will need to be replaced every couple of years or you'll keep experiencing saturated carpeting

Thanks for the info. I wanted to confirm that the hard line that I am seeing is the gas line and sounds like a rubber replacement is not the best. Has anyone replaced this hose before? How difficult of a job is it?
