Why are people so inconsiderate?

So my daughter and I drove up to the post office in the Spider, then to an estate sale and lastly to a retail store. I parked way out where there were no marked spaces, and parked at an angle so nobody would hit my car (again, no marked parking spaces way out there in the timbuktu).

I came out of the store and there's a monster of an SUV next to me parked closely....very closely to my car. I now am the proud owner of a new door ding.

What is with people? They seem to love destroying other people's property.

I'm with Mark on that one. I suspect the 80/20 rule applies. 80% of SUV drivers are actually OK. 20% are complete idiots. Of course, every SUV-owning forum member falls into the 80% "good person" category (right?).

Any chance a "paintless dent repair" guy can make your new door ding disappear?

Paintless dent repair won't work because it chipped through the paint. I would reverse the 80/20 rules for SUVs based on my experience. I'd say 80% are complete idiots and 20% are OK.

Just yesterday, we were driving on the freeway with all lanes blocked by two SUVs driving under the speed limit. As we approached a freeway exit (about 3 miles later), they both pulled into the right lane to exit and slowed to about 50 in a 65 mph zone. One driver slowed excessively on the off ramp, then cut from the left turn lane to the middle, then frantically looked around at the last minute and cut into the right lane. She was on her cell phone the entire time.

I see this daily. I have been almost hit three times in the last month by women driving SUVs and one guy driving an SUV. Nobody in passenger cars, trucks, semis, minivans or motorcycles have endangered me...only SUVs.

Even at church, we parked our Honda out in no-man's-land and an Infinity SUV park really close to us. The young boy who was riding in the rear seat threw his door open so hard into our new Honda that it dented the metal and gouged the paint down to the primer. That was our first and only door nick so far. Same thing happened to our minivan when a woman with a bunch of teenage girls parked next to us - they slammed the door into the van, denting the metal and chipping the paint.

People are inconsiderate of other in general today. if you have ever had teenage kids you now there is that phase they all go through were they can not think beyond thier immediate wants. We have more adults walking around acting like teenagers than ever. Not sure it is an SUV thing. These SUV's are so big they often take up the entire parking spot providing less room for occupants to exit. I'm always amazed at just how many people can not park a car straight between the lines. We have a Suburban for the family vehicle and in Texas 7 out of 10 cars on the road seem to be SUV's. As a result, the younger drivers tend to be in cars and cause far more trouble on the road. the number of SUV's on the road today is easily three or four times more than 25 years ago.

If you are considering doing a paintless dent removal on one of our spider with original paint be careful. Older paint can tend to have more issues during the PRD process.

When i was a kid I can recall owners of Cadillacs being labled the most inconsiderate driver on the road.

When I was stationed in Abilene, it seemed every house had a Suburban. I NEVER had problems with SUVs in Texas because it seemed everybody drove one.

Here in the People's Republic of Californication, SUVs are usually more along the line of Acuras, Infinities, Escalades, BMWs, and other high-end SUVs. It is now the Soccer Mom vehicle of choice. Minvans are very scarce now. Couple that with the cell phone addiction here and you have recipe for disaster on the road.

As for parking lots, I have found it is women who can't park worth a damn.

I so hate it when that happens. No smart ass remark implied. I really hate it. It seems that all the dents and scratches on all my cars are from others. I actually saw a lady swing her door wide open and bang it into my truck. I let out a loud "Hay man!" and she actually spit on my truck and tried to rub it out. I then loudly said "WTF are you doing to my tuck now? Just get away." Sorry for your ding.

I was next to some Douchebag in a BMW seven series and in the span of two red lights i watched him talk on three different phones and he gave me the stink eye for looking at him. so i did the only responsible thing being a 99 percenter driving a GMC sanoma pickup, i made the shape of an "L" with my hand on my forehead and drove off into the sunset!

like many other things, i think gearheads are a dying breed. We are the ones to teach automotive manners. As I kid i didnt get any of that and remember doing terrible things to cars just because i didnt know or pay attention. You finally understand automotive etiquette when you have to work on your own stuff and do you own paint and body work.
