If you attended the 2011 Freakout, you probably have vivid memories of the Lane Motor Museum. We had a guided tour of both the exhibits and the lower level where cars await restoration, sale, or trade. They have an incredible collection of cars and motorcycles, including this (click image to play).
Twice a year, the museum offers participants the opportunity to drive some of these cars over the back roads of Tennessee in a 200 mile fun rally (not TSD). I wanted the R5 turbo, but it (and most of the other fast cars) were already taken. Debbie & I picked a 1974 Renault 4L, one of several French cars offered. Our car had 17,000 miles on the clock and was incredibly comfortable with great seats and IRS. With only 747 cc, we had to "preserve forward momentum" as best as possible The shift lever protruding from the dashboard looks weird, but is very easy to use.
Several participants were appropriately dressed for their vehicles.
Wet morning roads were a challenge, but there were no accidents.
Lunch was at the Beechcraft museum, about 100 miles from the start.
Back at the Lane, we had ample time to tour the museum before beverages and dinner. Lots of unusual cars!
Fiats included a donated 1974 Spider awaiting restoration or trade. One of the caretakers said he really enjoys driving this car. A new Multipla with a 2013 Freakout sticker, vintage 500's, 600's and Multipla's, plus this:
The winner of the Rally drove the Lancia Delta Integrale, so our Italian sensibilities were maintained. Great cars, great roads, great food and great folks. You should try this sometime! http://www.lanemotormuseum.org/events/r ... r-the-lane

Hi Bernie,
I've read about Lane and about the rally a number of times. Not surprised to hear that you joined the fun. Wish I was closer to Nashville, maybe someday. Those French cars aren't very fast but they sure are comfortable. Well, with the exception of the R5 that is.
Thanks for the pics.

Brett and I ran it last year in a Lotus Elise. It was a blast! I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity.
