Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Unleaded Fuel Emblem??

Post by bonsaiwino »

I have an early '79 Spider 2000. Did it originally have an 'unleaded fuel only' emblem somewhere around the glovebox? If so, where would it have been mounted? Thanks very much.

The only "Unleaded Fuel Only" emblems or stickers I recall are 1) a decal at the trailing edge of the fuel filler door on the rear driver's side fender (usually missing if the car has been repainted), and 2) the text on the fuel gauge on the interior instrument cluster. I don't believe there was anything more than that.

Hope that helps!

My new to me '76 spider has an actual badge on the fuel filler lid. Please excuse the monsoon dust. Gotta wash it before Cars and Coffee this Saturday.

The only one my car had was a sticker on the fender, right behind the gas filler cover.

The unleaded badge on the 76 indicates a California car and the rest of the states could still burn leaded that year.
Started in 75?

Guessing by the time the 79 came out all new cars had to use unleaded thus the less prominent markers.

Monsoon? isleroman, are you in AZ?

Yup, Tempe. Just picked up the car a couple weeks ago. Looking forward to some cooler weather to start driving it.

Mines at 76 and has got exactly that - a transfer on the glove box saying unleaded fuel only. It white writing, clear background type of decal. Nothing on the fuel cap but who knows if there ever was. The glove box sticker is a bit pants but in keeping so I'll leave it be.

My '79 had he original sticker and it is located right below the fuel filler door. I'll see if I have a pic and post it up for you for a frame of reference...
