complete restoration

Post by So Cal Mark »

We started a complete restoration of a 74 Spider today. It belongs to the son of the original owner and has been sitting for about 6 yrs waiting for this process. I took a series of photos to document the state of the car at the beginning of the project. I'll document the process as we go along. Here is the first set of photos;

Looks solid if a bit worn... keep the photos coming - and I'll return the favour with the restoration of my own '74 so we can compare notes.

It looks just like my 72 did when I brought him home. I look forward to seeing the progress posted on the forum. If you do a good job, I might let you fix up my 70....no need to pay me. I'll let you do it for free! :D

you say a complete restore. is that to stock, or to a certain modification? I will be keenly interested in the budget as much as watching the progress in pictures.

ooh, a lift!

Can I interest you in a used transmission? "I can't remember if it worked when we parked it" :wink:

hey Mark,
I was thinking that it might be a good idea to start 2 new main sections. One for people who are starting restorations and want to keep adding pic for people to follow and the other for people to show off their spider that they drive. That way we wont have to wade through all these posts topics to find restorations and drivers.

Hi Mark,

I see you are also in Southern California. Can you recommend a good mechanic to work on my 1974 Spyder? I am in Orange County.

Thanks,

Wurbel

here are some updates; rear seat and some engine pics. We've gone from refreshing the stock engine to a complete rebuild with higher compression pistons and street perf cams.

Let me get this straight. Somebody is paying you (at normal commercial rates I presume?) to do a full restoration on their Spider. :shock:
I hope they are aware of the likely bill they are to receive when it's all completed.If I was to charge myself for all the hours I spent restoring mine, I'd be in the Bankruptcy Court. :(

Mark, do you have the paint code for the engine block grey-blue paint?

Looking good, Mark. I see you had cloth inserts installed in the seats. I did mine that way and am happy to not burn my buns every time I sit in the car. :D
