the simple pleasures of a spider

Post by steve8462 »

It just dawned on me why i would rather own a Fiat spider rather than a newer vehicle. Spiders don't have a computer generated "check engine" light.

the spider will leave more subtle codes for you to check, like oil spots, dim headlights, fading brakes. dash instruments that work only when the stars align, ETC.....

thank the lord for the Spider. i couldnt be happier!!!

I like the Spider because she doesn't come with much baggage. True, she has the potential to bring drama into your life but if you treat her right she'll give you the ride of your life. :)

I hear ya bro. Why would I rather drive a 35 year old spider than a new Chevy z-71. I don't know the answer other than its a lot more fun. I'll give it a think and get back to ya p

I've wondered the same thing. Why this finicky car?
For me, it's a combination of things.
First is the lines of the car and it's stance. I can and do stare at it while parked and I find it timelessly beautiful.
Second is the lack of computers and the ability to visually identify stuff like a thermostat quickly and easily. Reminds me a little of my first car, a 72 duster, in that way.
Third is this is soooo much more fun to drive than anything else I've ever been in. I think it's about feeling reconnected with driving, the noises, the visuals, and the way you are attached to the road.
Lastly, I found a 77 in great shape and that year holds a lot of personal meaning for me.

I will never wish for a muscle car again. I have what I need now. And it's actually fun to take care of :D

I have to agree with all of you.
I think Fiat said it best on the back of the 1968 124 sales brochure
"But around every Fiat model - in the lean agile lines, the perfect finish, the efficient power - there still lingers the hot oil and braking rubber aroma of the Sport of Cars.
It is the Fiat Style!"

I'm pretty sure this is a misquote the correct translation would have to of been "the aroma of hot oil baking" (meaning on the exhaust manifold)

When you drive a Spider you are in control of a piece of motoring art at an affordable price that makes you smile. are forced to smile much like entering a beautifully designed church, seeing the lines of a women in Italian heels or the taste of a pizzelle cookie. Driving a Spider involves all your senses and style.

.... and when you're at the lights, with everything running pretty much as it should underneath you - you realize that the guy in the latest Stuttgart offering next to you may as well be driving this....

A girl's prospective: wind in your hair, sunglasses on, your favorite tune on the radio being drowned out by the loud sucking sound of the dual IDFs and the roar of the Ansa exhaust. You come up to a red light and everyone at the intersection looks and nods in approval. You take off, shifting gears and set yourself up for the winding road ahead of you. You know your Spider can handle what you give it while putting a smile on your face and erasing your life problems, if just for a little while. Good golly, what's not to love?
