Anybody know how much metal is under the rubber end piece?. I broke the stud, and am just trying to figure out if I can drill the old stud out and tap the molded in plate to which the stud was attached.

It is just thick sheet metal. On my 81 they where so rusted that there was not anything left to work with by the time I beat on them with a hammer and got the rust out of them.

Thanks, did you figure something else out, or just replace them? If there's enough rubber, I could dig it out I suppose, and undercut the rubber a bit for a new bracket with a stud pointed out. I thought I would put some wood screw through the plate to hold it to the rubber, and epoxy fill over the top, but that's a questionable fix.

I took the bumper off and am running it that way. I like the look better.
