I'm not even sure of the terminology here but behind the ignition coil there is a plate that it attaches to. The black plastic piece that screws to the plate was connected to wires on the bottom (other ends went into the ignition coil) but on the top the metal male connectors weren't connected to anything.
Is this normal? I didn't see any wires hanging anywhere that weren't connected.

that is your ignition module. It is GM and can be bought off the shelf. It does require some heat sink silicone on the bottom so it get good heat conductivity with the heat sink. One set of connectors goes to the coil and ground. the other end go to the dizzy and connect to the mag pick up.

Thanks. I must have disconnected from the distributor and forgot where I unplugged it from. And there was a white goopy substance on the back of the ignition module so I'll replace with heat sink silicone. Think I have some that I used for a computer CPU. Hopefully it's the same stuff.azruss wrote:that is your ignition module. It is GM and can be bought off the shelf.
