Waiting on the side of the road

That's just what I'm doing, first time she's ever left me stranded. Heading home from work and I noticed the car was feeling loose around corners. I just blamed it on the rough road and went on, finally it got so bad I thought something in the suspension had broke. Nope, left rear wheel was coming off, again. The same wheel 2 years ago. 6 months ago I installed new lug bolts and tourqed to 65lb. What's up with this wheel? Lost all but 1 and walked back down the hwy and found another. No damage to threads and run it back in. Waiting on the wife to bring me some new spares that where in my other tool box. So this is the end of my workday I hope y'all's turned out better. I know, It could have been a lot worse. Y'all have a good day!

Close call! Glad you found the problem before there was an accident! Is the hub and axle shaft torqued properly, too? If there's a little too much play it could provide the right conditions to allow even tight lug bolts to loosen over the roadway surfaces. Might be good to check everything on the rear end for good measure Just a thought.

FWIW about 10 years ago I saw some brake rotors that were not machined properly inside the hat and they would not sit flush on the hub. If you have one like that, that may cause the lugbolts to loosen.

If you have painted the wheels, any paint on the bolt contact area will cause them to loosen. This happened to me, and I found that I had to check them regularly for a few months. Now I never find them to be loose.

I will check again to make sure all is tight with the axel assembly Saturday morning. I already had in my plans to replace all rotors.Csaba, last I checked y'all were back ordered, I'll check again,I wasn't in a big hurry at the time but now I'll move forward with it.Pete, I haven't painted anything around that wheel but I must find out whats going on or the wife will cease to ride . I have made a point to check the torque of all wheel bolts at least monthly and have never found any loose.This is what has me baffled. Thanks all for the sugestions. I will report back when I feel it is resolved

I was going to mention locknut - and Keith beat me to it! Each of my lugs has a little dot of it..... just in case!
