tie rod ends

I purchased new outer tie rod ends for my '72 and found that the passenger side was right hand thread the drivers side was left hand thread. yet the rod ends I bought are both left hand thread. I have not been able to find information anywhere stating if one side should be right hand thread and one left hand thread.

I looked at IAP's site and it looks like they are supposed to be the same on both sides. but mine is not.

any advice would be appreciated.

each set needs to be one LH and one RH. doesnt make any difference which end they go on.

I am not sure what you mean by it doesn't matter which end they go on -clearly it does. I was only replacing the outers as the inners were fine. But when I purchased two outers - they are both left hand thread. But one of mine is left and one is right hand thread - so it seems it does matter.

Are you saying my car has the tie rod switched?

I'm just saying that each tie rod section has a LH and RH thread. Thus, it cant work with 2 lefts or 2 rights. Need one of each. You can flip the tie rod around to make the outside the inside without any ill effects. The appropriate ball joint must stay with its end of the tie rod.

Ok - that makes sense. So somewhere along the line, mine was flipped - so what I need is an inner for the pass side.

azruss - thanks for clarifying. I was not aware the tie rod could be flipped.
