Alfieri has two cars back in Italy and he loves the Fiat for nostalgic reasons. "The Fiat is not the greatest car, but for me it's a 10 because my grandfather used to own the same model," he says. "I grew up with that car. I remember him driving really fast. It's a 2.0. It's still really fast."

Not sure if I should answer from my heart or my head. Owning and fiddling with my '71 has been tremendously rewarding, confidence boosting (I fix things around the house that I avoided before because I've never been all that good or all that interested in repairing stuff), and unbelievably frustrating. Shortly I will post pix of my 90% complete rolling restoration and that will give me great pride, but right now I am spending more time fixing small but serious ailments than driving. I would like to get to a point where I can drive with confidence that all the vitals will survive a road trip - or even a commute. I am so looking forward to FFO 13 on Long Island - and massively dreading the uncertainty of the drive. Greatest car ever? Ask me when I get back.
