Hi,

Going to replace the timing belt on my 1972 Spider.
While I am there, thought I would repaint the timing belt cover.
Any suggestions on paint and/or color?
Any other hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dougieb

I think if you just clean it up really well it should look fine. They make paints specifically for plastic but if it starts to chip or peel it looks way worse than the yellow. Actually the yellow on my 71 isnt quite as "bright" as the later years and the plastic is almost mottled like bakelite or something so once cleaned I was pretty happy with it. What id really like though is one of the aluminum ones. Ive seen them before for the 1608 so i know they exist!

Thanks again, azruss.

Do all of the earlier metal covers fit the 1608?
I happen to have one that I got in a box of parts I bought.
I will try to clean up mine but may consider the metal one of it will fit.
I can check that as soon as I take the plastic one off.

if it does fit .... those metal ones, with work, can look really sharp... shiny pretty sparkly.... there is a thread ... "little red fiat" ... i think..... that has a pick of a nice shined up metal one

edit .... the little red fiat.... page 4 ... one of the videos he has you can see the cover
