Underhood Insulation

Post by ga.spyder »

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use for underhood insulation? Mine is sagging and ripped ,and looks really bad.I see 'Dynamat' and other foil backed products listed by some vendors ,but havent seen it on a Spider.I would like something I can cut to fit the contours.I have seen a black quilted material, that looks good but have no idea how to find it.

I've used dynamat and it works very well with the added bonus of reflecting light into the engine compartment when the hood is open. Helps illuminate everything when you need to service it. I've also used some aftermarket fiberglass with the black surface that GM used on pickup trucks.

I like how these look, it's some type of padding. I glued mine on, and it's been on for the last four years. I bought them from a guy named Steve, who had a fiat shop in Stanton, Orange County. Like to find some more for my brothers car.

I ran across a company at the SEMA show that will make custom mirrors to fit under the hood

ga.spyder...

Watch eBay for the quilted underhood insulation. I bought mine off eBay a little over a year ago.

Can't remember who I got them from though.

I don't see them listed very often but once-in-a-while they show up.

Cecat, did you ever find the source for your quilted insulation?

this is as good as dynamat and about half the price. Used this stuff on my expedition to make it quieter. Will be purchasing some of the hliner for my fiat.

the max temp of the b quiet is only 250, that seems low for hood insulation. Wonder what the dynamat is?

I may wind up using one of these but would really like to stay with the original look if possible. Is it advisable to use dynamat or something like it and then try to cover it with the old quilted vinyl from the original insulation?

Dynomat is 300° and B-Quiet Ultimate is 311° while the B-Quiet Extreme is 230° and is not recommended for use in engine compartment.

I was looking at the hi-liner that pops up when the link is clicked on. It states it is for underhood use with a top temp rating of 250
