Value? (new pictures)
Value? (new pictures)
Can someone help me? My grampa has a 1977 spider in fair condition, and I want to buy it from him, so I want to know how much one would be worth. Please and thank you.

Re: Value?
need more details and pictures.
Re: Value?
My opinion of a fair condition car is one that starts and drives, with mediocre paint, marginal interior. I'd say that would bring $1000=$1500 depending on many variables. But like Rey said, post some pics or give a more detailed description
Re: Value?
yup, a better description would help us considerably. But, tell grandpa he should never sell his prized possession unless you agree to take VERY good care of it!!
Re: Value?
It's got the original paint (pretty good condition), the shifter knob's broken, the original leather seats are all cracked, there's something wrong with the carburetor (but its still drivable), one of the windows doesn't work. that's pretty much all I know about it, although I think it might be an Abarth.

Re: Value?
Easy enough to tell. What colour is the paint? If it's not red, white or powder blue (and it is the original paint) then it's not an Abarth. (Unlikely if it is actually a '77 model)CHMMX wrote: I think it might be an Abarth.
Does it have black fiberglass bonnet and boot?
Does it have black bumperettes?
Does it have wheelarch flares?
Does it have aluminium dashboard panels, and no glovebox?
Does it not have an upper centre console?
Does it have no rear seat?
Does it have a hard top and no soft top?
Or to put it another way, what makes you think it might actually be an Abarth?

Re: Value?
without pictures, it is difficult to tell....however, i think you've been given quite a few items to look for that would indicate if it is an Abarth.
Assuming it is not an Abarth, and it needs a paint job, and an interior restoration, and it kinda runs, i would suggest $1,500. how does your conscience and your grandfather feel about that?

Re: Value?
By the sounds of it, it's probably not a genuine Abarth but may be fitted with some Abarth bits. The defining element which will confirm one way or the other is whether it has independent rear suspension, and the fuel filler cap located on the rear panel at the top of the boot lid rather than on the left rear wing. If it IS an Abarth, then I'd be hanging onto it if I were him...

Re: Value?
nahhh, don't listen to these guys. if it's an abarth its pretty much worthless and your grandpa should just give it away (to me, of course)
Re: Value?
I'll give you five bucks.
Three dollars.

Re: Value?
you didn't need to. All fiat spiders are convertibles. What we did want to know, though, is whether or not it has a removeable hard top, or a soft top.CHMMX wrote:Did i mention it was a convertable?

Re: Value?
Well, they built nearly 200,000 Spiders in 20-odd years. Of those, 1013 were Abarths. Maybe 400-500 Abarths still survive; prices range greatly depending on condition.
But as per the earlier posts, without photos it's hard to judge. US$1500 sounds fair for a rough runner. If it's an Abarth (which I doubt - by 1977 Fiat was campaigning the 131) then it could be worth much more - particularly internationally.
If you want a more accurate answer, please post photos.
