What Keeps the Rear "Seat-back" in Place?

Post by focodave »

All,
I suspect my rear "seat-back" is missing something that keeps it upright.
Currently, it just sits upright without anything holding it in place most of the time.
When my top is down, the top holds it in place.
But, if I make a sudden stop with the top up, the rear seat-back flies forward (falls down forward).
What the hech is supposed to keep the thing in place?

There are 2 metal "tabs" that should have screws holding it in place.

On my '71 there are two tabs at the top of the seat that go behind a "loop". My tabs happen to be screwed to this loop. You will have to pull off the rear window/seat top trim to see these loops.

My '80 FI has 2 tabs at the top as mentioned by others, ~ 1/3 of the way in from each edge, that slip into pockets, no screws, and 2 tabs similarly placed along the bottom, that are screwed into the rear trunk wall with sheet metal screws.

Thanks, guys.
Looks like the tabs are missing on mine.
So are the receiving brackets.
I don't even want to know what wild things may have been going on in the back "seat" of my car 30 years ago.....

LOL. Reinforce them if you plan to similarly challenge yours.
