Vic roads also offers a new USA style plate for the rear , extra $200 of course don't know about any extra annual fee charge

Victoria used to have an annual fee for personalised plates too but dropped it quite a few years back. Since getting the Spider I've decided to let the full registration on my X1/9 lapse. I'm going for Club Registration on it from now on... soooo much cheaper! I'll still get to keep my old personalised plates for future use too.

It's not often you can say it, but this is a government system that makes sense!

Club Plates do make sense , discounts on Insurance and Rego and you get to drive your car up to 90 days a year that's if you are willing to keep an up-to date log book of every km driven.

From what people tell me it's not a big deal filling out the log. I think there's even a 120 day option (could be wrong there). Either way, it's heaps of days that you can use your car. A friend of mine has a stable of Peugeots that he has on Club Rego - for the lot it costs him the same as the full registration costs for one car per year. He gets to drive a variety of cars and he loves it!

The club permit lets you drive for a max of 90 days a year. The log book doesn't require kilometres or anything like that, just date, reason for drive, such a tour of melbourne, driver and signature. Piece of.

Rego costs about $170 and comprehensive insurance with Shannon's is about the same cost with rights to the wreck if it is a write off.

Thanks Matt. I'm pretty sure there are two options for number of days - maybe it's 60 or 90 and the price changes accordingly.

It is a good system in Victoria. There are clubs being established to make the most of it for enthusiasts. A club called "The Feral Sports Car Club" has a really good description of how to go about it. It's good for a chuckle too. http://feralsportscarclub.net/

Ok Guy's I'm convinced, Phill at Bits of Italy is I believe the president of the club, will have to wait till he gets back from Tassie as he is there playing some part in the rally. My car is sitting on his hoist awaiting his return and should be ready for dyno testing , after all it's only been a 7 month rebuild and I'm starting to forget what she looks like.

Once I've sorted this Rego thing out will have some great plates for sale !!!

Hi Guys

this has come to me through the rally guys I dont know the original source but I will try to confirm the truth in a couple of days when I talk to a couple of friends. All I can say is to be careful and make sure you have filled out your log book before you leave home (you can only drive 100m from your registered garaged address without filling it in).

Clubs are required to sign an agreement with VicRoads that they meet certain obligations including that they notify VicRoads if they become aware or reasonably suspect a pattern of incorrect use of a logbook by a member. If this is not done, VicRoads will be able to revoke the club’s approval to be part of the scheme. so if you get caught use your car with out filling out the logbook you may be putting this scheme at risk for all of your clubs users.


CLASSIC CAR DRIVERS BEWARE.

The Victorian police are on the warpath! They have been instructed to pull over all cars wearing Vic “Club Permit Scheme” plates (red plates) , where practical and safe, to check log books.

If your log book is not filled out you will be booked. Partial entries will not be accepted. For example some people have filled out and signed their log book but not dated it – this will not be accepted! Any transgression will earn the log book holder a fine in excess of $600, loss of three demerit points and loss of CPS registration. Be warned!
