1970 126 Spider project

About 9 years ago I purchased a nicely (Michigan) preserved Spider and drove it home (20 miles) without a problem, except alternator not charging. Got a new alternator, good friend installed it while cursing about the messy wiring harness and we started it up. After a couple of minutes running the engine, lots of smoke came out of the new alternator and we pushed the car in my big garage to plan the next action.
This planning took nine years and now it will finally start.
I just joined the club and may ask some questions along my project.
Engine still starts with spray but then stalls. I am sure I can figure that out.
My background is German cars (Audi, VW and Porsche) and the average German has little trust in a Fiat, especially when 43 years old. Wiring really looks messy, but I found a great assembly of Schematics for that vintage which should help.

And the car looks beautiful (from some 10' away) and will be lovely to drive on a sunny day in MI. :D
