I bought my 78 from a mechanic who services high end exotic cars. Before I picked it up he reconnected the smog control stuff and told me if it made too much noise I could cut the belt. Is this okay or advisable? It sounds like a bearing starting to go. Not too noisy yet.

yes you can remove the belt without any detrimental results
