Brake lines

Post by mgbgtn »

I'm trying to figure how the brake lines are run from the master cyl as mine has the rear and one of the front lines go through a pressure warning valve then out. There were no lines on mine so I am going from scratch. Any help or pictures would be helpful.

Thanks

The single front outlet goes to the rear; the left outlet of the pair goes to the left wheel and right one goes to the right. Left = driver's side. Pictures are impossible - it's crowded down there. There should be grommets on each front inner fender for the front lines.

Not sure what year your car is, but mine is an '80 Fi and you are quite welcome to come down and take a look at it if you want.

Mine's a 73 and is quite a bit different, even my 79 parts car is different from the 73. This is like working on a jigsaw puzzle with missing parts and no picture.

Here's a picture of my 74 in a partial state of reassembly. I have some pictures in a fully reassembled state, but they are in the camera in the garage. If this doesn't do the trick let me know.

Picture was clearer because the engine is out!

The rear line and the left front line goes through the checkvalve.
However these valves do leak every now and then, so often I eliminate them. The rear line is long enough to reach the master cylinder, one just needs to find a left front one from a parts car.

I am hoping to replace my front passenger brake line tomorrow. Does anybody know the length required? I will be making my own flares and bending where required (best fit).
