I just bought a 79 spider and the carburetor was off when I got it home. I have been searching all night for a diagram or some pictures of what hose/line goes where on it. I messed up and bought a downloadable service manual off tradebit. All of the fold out pages with the diagrams are MIA!!! I will order an actual book once I find one. I found where the vacuum lines go, now i just can't figure out what hose goes where. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

i think i got it figured out. got it all together, tried to start it and the starter is dead. I guess i'm on hold til i get a replacement.
Re: Carburetor - Need a pic or two
Are you sure its the starter? Usually the ignition switch goes before the starter.

Re: Carburetor - Need a pic or two
yah, it was the starter. I got it working now though. The PO had the car parked in his back yard and a lot of water got in the engine bay. the motor was stuck, but some diesel fuel took care of that. anyway, i took the solenoid apart and there was alot of corrosion inside the moving parts. wasn't rusty, look like dried up dirty water. cleaned it all up, lubed is with silicon and now it's working great. before the starter would just spin but now it will kick out and spin like it's supposed to.
But I would still like a diagram or some pics of what hose goes where. I found a diagram for the small vacuum lines, but i'm not 100% sure if I actually figure it out or not. when i plugged everything in, it just seemed like it was right because of the bends in the hoses and the length.
thanks...

While I was swapping carbs I accedently unplugged the wire from the switch to the solinoid. Check that before fooling with the starter. also check and make sure you are getting power there when the key is turned.

yah.. it was getting power with the key turned. it was just so gunked up that it wasn't doing anything. it seems to be working fine now. I just have to put it in. i know there is still a chance that it may be too weak to turn it over, but at least not it's spinning and kicking out.
thanks
thanks

I have a factory Spider service manual. 102.4 is the carburetor which shows the 28/32 ADHA and all the inlets and outlets. I don't have a scanner so if you want a copy send me a private message and I'll get it scanned and email it to you. Can't be bothered trying to figure out how to post pictures on this format.

I finally got my starter working. It wasn't turning over at all so I took it out and cleaned/lubed the solenoid and put it back in. It started working but would barely turn the engine over. So i check all the wires for good connection, cleaned the ground and no change. Last night I pulled it back of and this morning took it to autozone to be tested. What a waste of time, all the machine did was kick the bendex out and said "passed" didn't spin it or nothing. i did that at home. I was hoping they had a way to check if it was weak or not. Anyway, when i got home i actually fully disassembled the starter and solenoid again cleaned it all out played with the brushes till they moved freely and kind of adjusted the springs so the brushes would be pushed a little harder. put it back in the car and now it works great. i'm glad I was too stubborn to shell out the money for another starter while i was there.
