shock tower rust

Post by dmwhiteoak »

I picked up another car yesterday and now I have a decision to make . Either fix it or part it out. Any and all opinions are welcome.

Some of the body has rust but these are the ones that concern me the most. This is the drivers side.

And here is the passenger side

Is it possible to just try and repair the towers without cutting out and replacing? I don't have alot invested in it and it was bought for a parts car.

I will part it out before I go that far. The towers to me look solid for the most part other than whats in the pics. I dug around with a screw driver and small bar, beat the heck out of them with a hammer. Internally i think they are strong. When I get a key made and get it cranked I will take it to a frame shop and let them look.Your car is looking great Cris, I like the color. I really want to save this ol girl.
BTW The floor pans are in great shape :D

Looks like it has delrin control arm bushings. I know that they sell replacements. But have also heard that they are made for a Lada and don't fit well. I'm kind of kicking myself for not cutting them out of my last parts car. It's weird how different cars rust, most of mine have had rusty floors, but perfect shock towers. Maybe it's a East coast thing?
