clutch pedal to the floor........

Post by rviator »

On first blush it appears my clutch cable has disconnected from the clutch pedal........as the pedal goes to the floor freely without affecting clutch movement.

Am hoping to find a drawing or picture.of the linkage and cable that would help me understand how the cable fits into the clutch pedal lever and link. Things are so tight up in there it is hard to see what is what. Is there a week link issue here i.e.. does the pedal attach point on the pedal distort or bend and allow the disconnect. Appreciate any input relating to this issue.
Thanks, Ron with an 83 Pinin Farina in Goodyear AZ

Can you get under the car and pull/push the cable at the fork conection. There is a 10mm lock nut and an odd shaped adjustment nut on the end. if it has come apart at the pedal end , you might be able to pull the cable by hand from under the car to check.
Another issue is the fire-wall flex/broken issue. Behind and a bit below the brake resevors, the clutch cable comes through the fire wall. If the cable is old, it can bind and then the fire wall takes up the movement/flex and will crack every time you use the clutch. No cable or not enough cable movement to move the clutch fork, movement is in the fire wall.
The other thing, the top of the clutch pedal is a fork the end of the cable sits in and behind it is a small plastic clip. That fork has been known to bend and then the cable pops out.
If the fire wall is cracked, then the resevors come off and then weld up the cracks and weld another plate over the clutch cable hole to reinforce.
Pedal...pull the long bolt out the pedals hang on and replace the clutch pedal .
