Now the work starts

Finally got the 73 stripped down to bare metal and repainted in my garage last week as the paint the PO used had blistered 25 years ago. This was the reason he gave up and past the car on to me last year. The trouble is that the car was stripped down 25 years ago and put in boxes unlabled and been moved 3 times over the years. The problem now is trying to put pieces back together when you have never seen one of the same year. I bought a 79 for parts but all the under hood wiring is different and the shop manuals don't help telling were the relays go. It's a lot like a jigsaw puzzle with no pictures and missing pieces. I told myself I would never do another basket case again 2 cars ago. Just a sucker for a challange

I can take a few pics of my 72 but I have nicked a few parts for the project car. I also downloaded Brad's wiring diagram for the 72....has been a godsend..

I have the wiring diagram that came in the owner's handbook but it does'nt show were the relays are located under the hood or dash. The wiring diagram is a little different because of the dual point dist. It just makes for a bit of a challange at least most of the wires are of the right color even if a couple of them are purple with a black stripe and not the other way around, still better than the British cars I'm used to working on.

I binned the dual points and put the later electronic in the 72, but when I got the car running the tach worked for a moment then fluttered and then stopped working. I have a tach from a later car and when I'm finished with the dash(re-veneering) will try and see if that shows the rpms as it should. I'll get a few pics of the engine bay, such as it is...
Pack the printer with paper and print off the diagrams. If you are my age with the corresponding eye issues, perhaps enlarge them a bit. Printing is a bit small even with the 2.5 glasses so I have used an old first aid jewlers loop at times.
Still need the hood thingy..?

I had the diagram that came in the handbook enlarged by 200% and then laminated. I'm 60 and use 1.5 cheaters. The problem with mine is the points change-over relay that triggers the tach. It only shows up on the handbook diagram so might be unique to the 73? I even down loaded the online diagrams but the relay is not shown on it.
Thanks for the pictures.
