Glass Question

Post by davery »

I have an 85 with the side mirrors mounted off the side glass (same as the pic in the header above). I really hate these mirrors. I would like to mount a set of mirrors on the door (I know - I don't want to drill holes in the door either, but what are my options?). Anyway, can I replace my current side window glass from an earlier car without the holes drilled for the mirrors? If so, are they green tinted as my current glass? I have taken the car around to a couple of window places and they are concerned about matching the green tint. I don't really car if the side windows open or not.

the early side windows are the same shade of green from 75 on, at some point fiat changed from clear to as1 tint, i think 72 but im not exactly sure. the only problem is the early side windows too small to be put in the frames with a gasket and not opened. you can replace the whole assembly and have opening vent windows

So the entire side window assemply will fit? That is an option. I am still checking with a couple of places to replace the glass in my existing frames. They will not open, but they don't open now. I found a side mirror I liked that would mount on the side window glass, as the original for 83-85. But the hole would need to be further back on the window, as the mirrors do not stick out as far. If they were placed in the same hole you could see the mirror due to the B pillar.
